The D96 pickup, which is optionally available with the ELAC Miracord 80, is an MM type with an aluminum housing. Its body and the quite long needle carrier – also made of aluminum – give those in the know a visual indication of its provenance: The D96 is built by “our friends from Clearaudio,” as Elac puts it. Elac equipped its previous record player models with cartridges from Audio Technica. The fact that a well-reputed German manufacturer is now supplying the scanner for the latest model is certainly to be understood not least as a tribute to “Made in Germany” and also effectively avoids the logistics/supply chain problem. With an output voltage of 3.3 mV, the D96 (whose technical data largely corresponds to those of the Clearaudio Concept V2) is in the lower middle range for an MM syst.
