This auction is for a Pure Sound Tenuto solid Gun Metal turntable mat. Gun Metal is a copper alloy that also includes Tin & Zinc. This newly revised version is 5mm thick & weighs 2.2 Kg. The top surface is precision machined with a slightly concave profile to allow for better contact with the record and to allow for the use of a clamp or weight. The upper face is coated with a clear lacquer. The lower face is not coated so as to allow the mat to be electrically grounded to the platter in order that any static build up is discharged. The Tenuto will require that most suspended sub-chassis turntables are re-adjusted to provide a level platform. The additional mass does increase the kinetic energy stored by the platter while affording very effective damping of the unwanted resonance that many alloy platters can contribute to the sound of vinyl replay. The Gun Metal also provides a more appropriate impedance match allowing energy imparted into the vinyl by the stylus to be dissipated harmlessly. The Tenuto also makes a fine partner for the platters of high quality direct drive turntables and has been shaped to fit the SP10 Mk2 perfectly. Lenco & Garrard users have also experienced good results.
