The most important improvement to detachable pick up headshells since the 1960.ies. A challenge solving a problem with an invention! The SME-type headshells are not firmly attached to the tonearm with a negative effect on the sound reproduction! Today’s one pin solution or sometimes two pin is not ridged which can be noticed by fingers applying some twisting force between a head shell and arm. No matter how good screws and force that are used for fixation of the cartridge to the head shell, the head shell is not firmly fixed to the arm and mostly there is a rubber washer that allows flexibility. The invention is a solution that eliminates some of the major disadvantages with the fixation of a SME-type head shell that emanates from the original design more than 50 years back. Ancient Archimedes principals is the key element. The invention is based on a standard SME-type head shell, where normally just one pin that enters the nut on the arm tube and where there are some solutions with two pins etc. The imperfections in mechanical precision in all parts involved in the fixation and the well-established standard, improvements have to be backwards compatible to be used. The invention several-fold increases, approx. 3-4 times the clamping force without increasing the torque applied to the nut between the headshell and the arm and is fully compatible with the standard SME-type fitting. It also moves the point where the clamping force is applied in the axial middle between the head shell and arm tube and to be central instead of peripheral resulting in an even pressure around the flanges on and between head shell and arm tube. The rubber ring is exchanged to an aluminum. The result is that the head shell is firmly fixed to the arm without flexing.Cast aluminum fairly standard head shell, added components comprises forged stainless steel for high strength. The question is; will there be an improvement in sound. Well, it is quite obvious as otherwise you should not bother to tighten the cartridge screws. It is by that very self-explanatory. In technical terms I would assume the firmer base reproduction in combination with lower IM distortion positively affecting the full sound reproduction. The difference will be mostly noticeable with cartridges with low compliance often used in moving coil.
