Pats Audio On/Off AC Power Switch – Philips 212 and 312 Turntable

  • por

Pat’s Audio on/off power switch for the Philips 212 and 312 turntables (and more). You will find our switch to be the most reliable, durable, and high quality switch available. We use it exclusively in our shop when completing customer repairs. It has a high safety rating (safe for use worldwide) and its heavy duty superior construction gives it a long lasting 10,000+ cycle lifespan. Our switch is much sturdier than the original and other similar replacements. Our switch has been modified for installation as the mounting bracket holes have been opened for easy screw alignment. Use the existing switch mounting bracket and screws when installing the new switch. Also included is an all important power safety capacitor. Philips added the safety capacitor on later models. The capacitor will prevent the loud “pop” heard through system speakers when the turntable is powered on and off. And for your convenience we include a replacement aluminum cap. The beautiful machine finished aluminum is a bit brighter than the matte silver finish on the original cap yet it still provides you with a good solution should you be missing the original cap. With the turntable unplugged from the power source disconnect the wires leading to the old switch and then solder the two wires to either the left or right side pole pairs (1 top and 1 bottom from same side) on the new switch. Solder the safety capacitor to the same poles as the wires. Secure the new switch to the chassis with the original screws and mounting bracket. Don’t forget to put the push button cap onto the switch plunger before installing. Special Note: Philips used a couple of different switch types. The connection points differ and the plunger stem dimension can vary. Some units even have more than two wires connected to the switch. If you have a four wire switch feel free to contact us if you have any questions on how to install our switch. Or, if you want to forego soldering altogether please see our pre-wired switches that makes installation a snap. If you have any questions as to the type of switch you have or how to make the wiring connections please contact us. As longtime trusted and respected turntable service and repair experts we’ll be glad to assist you. Best Audio On/Off AC Power Switch – Philips 212 and 312 Turntable

  • por

Greetings vintage Philips owners! Here’s a brand new Philips Turntable Power Switch for Philips model 212 and model 312 turntables. We use this switch exclusively in our shop. For the DIY-er looking to extend the life of a 40 year old classic TT, treat your turntable to a new, beautiful, silky smooth heavy duty power switch. Custom made for Philips 212 and 312 model turntables – a great turntable fitted with a not so great switch. The new switch’s mounting bar has been carefully re-tooled so that it will match your original Philips mounting bracket! See photos (OEM mounting bracket, screws, washers, and OEM cap are shown for reference only). This high quality 4 amp, 240V AC switch is conservatively estimated as having an electrical life of 6,000 cycles. This means if you use your Philips turntable 7 days per week, it should last you about 16 years. The replacement involves soldering and testing. Working with electricity can be harmful, work at your own risk. If you choose to DIY, always unplug your turntable when doing any form of electrical work. Take plenty of photos of your old switch mounting bracket and the wires before disassembly, this will help you install the replacement switch. Snip off the wires from your old two wire switch preserving as much of the old wire as possible. Strip down the insulation to expose some fresh wire. Attach temporary leads to this fresh wire. Give yourself enough space to work and test your new connection. Attach the other ends of your temporary leads to the new switch terminals. Use the lower two terminals on one side only – either the left side lower pair or the right side lower pair – it doesn’t matter which side you choose to use. Please look at the wiring suggestion in the photos. (This switch will work perfectly for those turntables with a four wire switch, see diagram). Your wire color doesn’t matter when working with two wires only. Once your temporary connection is in place, plug in your turntable and test the on/off function. Be careful not to touch the terminal connections while testing the connection. If your connection is working, unplug your turntable and solder your original wires to the switch terminals. Before final assembly, decide if you wish to use the free new aluminum switch cap, or your original switch cap. Your original switch cap will fit the stem of our switch and will stay in place assuming you have the original mounting bracket. Our real aluminum clad switch cap looks great and fits the new switch stem perfectly! It’s a great looking complement to the anti-skate and pitch control knobs, which have a polished aluminum finish and a similar diameter. And the machine lines on the switch cap are nearly identical to those on the platter! (see comparison photo). Beware of inexpensive “chrome painted” plastic caps as sold by others. They are severely undersized and look odd against such an elegant turntable. And still others use “Marantz switch caps” sourced from another eBay seller. Really? Based on our testing, the OEM switch caps vary in size – 1/10th of a millimeter – and will fit our switch and will be 100% secure assuming you have your original mounting bracket (the bracket holds the original cap in place due to the cap’s plastic bushing and the interior diameter of the bracket). If the OEM cap fit is tight, use sandpaper or a nail file to remove a very small amount of plastic from the switch stem. Replace the decorative cap of your choice, and use your original mounting bracket and your original screws when reinstalling. Follow your photos for a smooth reinstallation. Please note you are buying one switch and receiving one free aluminum cap and snubber capacitor. The push switch has black body and black or blue stem. The real aluminum cap is free – use it, or, use your existing switch cap. The Philips OEM black colored plastic bracket, screws, and Philips OEM switch cap and Philips OEM turntable are shown for reference and instruction only, they are not for sale. Shipping cost is the same whether you buy one switch, two switches, or three switches. Buy one for a friend! To our European and other international friends, please be aware:Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are your responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Please note this switch is rated for 4A at 250VAC. Merci beaucoup.
